Welcome to WONCA Europe Conference 2027 in Ljubljana.

Our conference focuses on a defining challenge for our discipline: Sustainability Strategies in Primary Care.

Primary care across Europe faces unprecedented pressure - demographic change, workforce shortages, environmental crises, technological disruption, and evolving societal expectations. Sustainability is no longer optional; it is essential for the future of equitable health systems.

The scientific programme is built around a clear and deliberate keynote logic:

• Planet – The end of business as usual in primary care
• System – Financing, policy, and structural reform
• Workforce – Who will deliver sustainable care?
• Technology – Human-centred care in the age of artificial intelligence
• Social Contract – Responsibilities, rights, and redesign

This progression reflects a systems-thinking approach: sustainability must be addressed at planetary, structural, professional, technological, and societal levels.

As Chair of the Scientific Committee, I am committed to a rigorous and transparent review process, high methodological standards, and scientific dialogue that connects research with practice, education, and policy.

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the WONCA Europe Conference 2027 in Ljubljana, the vibrant capital of Slovenia.

Bringing together family doctors, researchers, educators, trainees, and healthcare professionals from across Europe, the conference offers a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge, inspire innovation, and strengthen the values that unite our profession. We are honoured to host the WONCA Europe community once again, more than two decades after Ljubljana last welcomed this remarkable event.

Slovenia is a country where natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and modern healthcare come together in a welcoming and accessible environment. Ljubljana, one of Europe’s greenest and most sustainable capitals, provides the perfect setting for learning, collaboration, and meaningful connections. Its compact city centre allows delegates to enjoy the conference venues, historic landmarks, vibrant cafés, and riverside atmosphere - all within walking distance. 

Our Local Organising Committee is working closely with WONCA Europe to create an inspiring scientific programme that reflects the challenges and opportunities of contemporary family medicine. Alongside outstanding keynote lectures, interactive workshops, and engaging discussions, we hope you will experience the warmth of Slovenian hospitality and build lasting friendships with colleagues from around the world.
